Objectives

Our vision in Africa is to travel to the neglected people groups and reach them with the Gospel of Christ. A short-term missions teams' work will involve the first contact with the villages, evangelism, and building relationships. After the event is over, the maintaining of the relationships is recommended for a minimum of two years.

All teams arriving in Africa will first land at the great Victoria Falls in Zambia. Once there they will spend the first two days at the Overland Missions operational base to do training and orientation for the mission. From this base, teams board our overland trucks that will take them to the locations that the specific trip is working in. These locations include the countries of Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Angola, Namibia, Malawi, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Congo and South Africa.

Description

We will begin this mission in Livingstone, Zambia.  The city is named after Dr. David Livingstone, who explored the area for the purpose of missions in the mid-1800's. From there we will drive through parts of Chobe National Park in Botswana and the Caprivi strip of Namibia on our way to the Barotse flood plain of Zambia, where we will be concentrating our work.

When we first came to these villages, the people told us that we were the first white people to ever visit them. They live in small villages that are difficult to reach and are therefore rarely visited by outsiders. It is a huge privilege to be able to bring the gospel to a people who are for the most part forgotten.

Last year the headman in one village was begging us to start a church for his people. They enthusiastically accepted salvation in Jesus and are hungry to learn more.

We will also be working with a local church in Livingstone with whom we been in relationship with for many years. At the end of the trip, you will have the opportunity to do some of the most exciting adventure sports in the world. White-water rafting, bungee jumping, and abseiling are some of the activities that are available in the area near Victoria Falls. These activities are optional and most of them cost between $70 and $115 each.

Our transportation between Livingstone and Senanga will be by overland truck. When we travel between the fishing villages we will travel by inflatable Zodiac boats, dugout canoes and foot. This trip is an opportunity for you to have an impact on an awesome people who truly need the gospel.

In the late 1800’s Dr. David Livingstone explored the continent of Africa. He endured many severe hardships, including walking for months on end to find indigenous people to bring the gospel to. Many of these areas in Africa still exist without a solid testimony of the Word of God. Maybe you have dreamed of pioneering for Christ but thought it has all been accomplished.

Pioneering is made easy in the 21st century with 4x4 trucks, satellite phones and the advancement of medicine. Join one of our mission teams as we walk in Dr. Livingstone’s footsteps! Come and have an experience of a lifetime, but leave knowing that there is a lasting impact.
