Description

Overland Missions has been working aggressively in the Central Amazon region to preach the Gospel and empower the indigenous church. In spite of the opposition of animism strongholds and cultic festivals, we have found great favor in the work there.

Your mission to the Central Amazon will begin when the team arrives in the bustling city of Manaus, located along the shore at the mid-point of the great Amazon River. The Amazon is the second longest river in the world. After a briefing of the team’s objectives, the rest of your first day will be leisurely spent at a local market, hammock shopping and experiencing some of the local cuisine. That night your team will be shown what will be your home for the duration of the trip, an Amazon riverboat equipped with showers, a kitchen and hammock quarters.

The boat will depart from Manaus and travel overnight to the small city of Maues. Maues is a city of 50,000 people strategically located on the bank of the Amazon. Maues is the center of political negotiation and market shopping for the Satare Maues Indians. The city is a key element in our endeavor to reach this tribe with the gospel of Christ.

While in the city, the team will join efforts with an evangelical church, which we have been in partnership with for some time now. The team will do ministry throughout the town in the hospital, fish markets, schools and in other various locations. Also the team will host soccer tournaments for the young people of the town. Time will also be spent building relationships with the members of the local church during the evening and afternoon. The team will also preach in the local church and host evangelistic services.

Later the group will travel further up the estuaries of the Amazon River to minister to the Satare Indians through evangelism and relationship building with the indigenous believers. The teams work here will be groundbreaking and therefore our schedule will remain flexible. The team will preach in Satare Maues Indian churches and experience village life firsthand.

Our work will further the work of the gospel in these villages as the Holy Spirit opens doors. Ministry in these villages will be very sensitive as in the past broken relationships with outsiders has hindered the advance of the gospel. The team will minister in boldness and love as is appropriate in each situation.

The team will travel back to the city of Manaus by boat where they will spend one last day souvenir shopping and sharing a last meal together. From Manaus the team will fly back to the United States and return home, hopefully with a larger vision of God’s work in the earth.
