Objectives

The team will fly into the city of Jambi on the island of Sumatra. From Jambi, the expedition team will hike into the Indonesian jungle to locate the nomadic Kubu tribe.

They will travel with a guide and an interpreter for the approximately two to three day trek to reach the Kubu sirups. A sirup is a small village that consists of three to five bamboo houses.

After locating the Kubu villages, the team will spend time building relationships with the local people and evangelism meetings will be held each evening. At the conclusion of the ministry time in the villages, the team will hike back to Jambi and work with the local pastors in the city. The pastors in Jambi are working with the Kubu people learning the language and culture. It is with great joy that Overland is able to partner with these local leaders that are invested in the area long-term.

The team will have the opportunity to share the testimonies of the ministry time from the time spent in the jungle with the Kubu.

Description

Our expedition takes us to the tropical archipelago of Indonesia, where vast unexplored tracts of jungle lead to some of the worlds most unreached tribal villages. Nearly 17,000 islands boast village life still untouched by Western influence or commerce and features faultless beaches and sunsets. Because of the difficulty to reach the islands, Muslim, Hindu, black magic and animist practices are present. There is a great need for the gospel.

An unforgettable backpacking journey will begin on the island of Sumatra. From there our team will begin a strategic effort to preach the gospel within the local area around the city of Jambi. We will use buses and ferries to travel from place to place, trekking with locals and experiencing the sounds and smells of the culture up close and personal.

Meals will be local cuisine but there will some opportunities to eat Western-style food also. Accommodations will be in backpacking and travel lodges, as well as staying with local bible teachers in their homes.

On the island nation of Indonesia, there is an atmosphere that is desperate for the Good News. The key to this mission will be flexibility, sensitivity and a heart for the people of Indonesia. Help us bring life in abundance and the gospel of peace to this nation.
