Siambaulwa, Zambia, Celebrates Clean Water

Siambaulwa well

Picture this scene in the rural village of Siambaulwa, in the Nyawa chiefdom, Zambia; a new borehole is being drilled to provide the local community with safe, clean water. The drill site is located 100m from a dry river bed that holds water 6 months a year. Next to the river bed is an elementary school with 300 students. The closest water source from the school is 10km away. The government closed the school due to lack of clean water availability, but in November of 2011 we were able to...read more

Well Drilling 2012

Nsongwe village 2

For the Overland Missions’ well drilling team, this spring feels like we are sitting at the top of a rollercoaster, excited and nervous about the ride ahead. Last fall was the long haul up the tracks. The hard work has paid off. In our first season, we completed five boreholes that provided clean water to hundreds of neglected villages. That was a radical success! We are carrying that momentum into this year. The focus and perseverance of our team will continue to overcome every obstacle they encounter in the bush. ...read more

A New Sector

Sekute blog pic

Last September my husband, daughter, and I ventured down the rough dirt roads in southern Zambia to begin our assignment in the remote villages of the Sekute Chiefdom. We traveled to many villages, meeting leaders and pastors, preaching the Word, and praying for the sick wherever we went. We found churches, but many different denominations. And as you would expect, these churches were at odds with each other, so much so that they would not even attend a non-religious meeting at a church of another denomination. Very few people owned...read more

Recon Trip: CAMBODIA

Cambodia 7

While in Indonesia, we met a young lady and explained to her what we were doing there and told her of the island where we had a heart to minister. Tears welled up in her eyes and she said, "You are one ones I have been praying for! I am from there and my family lives there, I have been praying that Jesus would bring people to share the Truth with the people I love, and here you are standing before my eyes!" I love the divine appointments He sets...read more

Taking New Ground in Moomba, Zambia

Zambia 10-06-11 04-21 03

Can you see yourself here? Chief Moomba gives Overland Missions a piece of land to build a temporary shelter for our missionaries. See how Nathan Finney is greeted with excitement by the villagers and their children as he prepares the ground for his home from home....read more

Sweet Relief

Dsc 1149

What started out this year as a gray-skied, cool October quickly progressed into blazing heat the likes of which we’ve never experienced before. The last 6 weeks or so have been almost unbearable and it’s been all we can do to keep going with daily life, wipe the sweat from our faces, and say, “Man, I can’t wait for the rain!” This morning, I shivered in my sleep and reached to the foot of my bed to pull up the sheet. I continued shivering once I had the sheet wrapped...read more

South Congo Recon

Group half size

This October two friends (Derek and Jake) and I ventured into the Democratic Republic of Congo to form relationships and scout spots for Overland Missions to work in the future.  The trip offered abundant blessing, surprise, and connections with great potential to bear fruit in the future.   In all our research and asking advice for this trip we were consistently warned about the aggressive corruption in the Congo, and the potential for plans to go awry amidst a frenzied and unpredictable environment.  In fact, all this is true.  But even...read more

Congo Trip Part 1

A couple of weeks ago, I embarked on a journey to the southern Congo DRC with two other great guys, Dave Hoyme and Jacob Schwertfeger. Here is a brief summary of our border crossing into the Congo. We traveled on bus, which took us 2 days to get from Livingstone Zambia to where we were ministering in the Congo. A friend of ours set us up with a contact to go with us and interpret for us during our time in the Congo. When we arrived at the border we...read more

“My Teaching is not my own…”

Bible study mango

“But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”  John 3:21 “My teaching is not my own it comes through Him who sent me.”  John 7:16 After a few months of weekly Bible studies with the men and women of Ndele, they were wanting to dive even deeper into the word of God.  Hungry for some meat they began asking questions about baptism and prophecy.   Understanding what they were getting at yet...read more

Meet Maria

Maria

While in the village of Siambaulwa I took the team to go see the dingy, dirty, little hole in which supplied the whole village with water. The community dug this hole for water so they wouldn’t have to walk the 5 km (3 miles) to the nearest source of clean water. The team was amazed that these beautiful people had to drink such awful unclean water.  After taking some pics and discussing the cost of drilling a well for the people, we headed back to camp.  Along the way we...read more
