Our September reconnaissance mission to the northwest region of Argentina started with a 20 hour bus ride from the capital province of Buenos Aires. We did not have contacts in the city of Salta, but we trusted the Lord to guide us on our way to Iruya, eight hours north of Salta near the border with Bolivia.

Fastforwarding to the end of the 20 hour ride, we found a hostel in Salta and the team went out to buy some food for a typical Argentinian "asado" (bbq). I tried one more time to reach a missionary I had heard about in 2008; her name was Cristina and she would walk the mountains in Iruya preaching the gospel of Christ in remote settlements.

I had not met Cristina in person but we had emailed a couple of times trying to meet and talk about the work being done in Iruya. Earlier that day, we had (in faith) bought the bus tickets to Iruya again not knowing what would await us there. Within 20 minutes I was able to (thank God) connect with Cristina via phone and by 7:00pm we were preaching in the main church in Salta.

We met senior pastor Jose Maria Gonzalez which was another God-appointment. We were a blessing to the church and they were equally a blessing to us. In the near future, Overland will have the opportunity to receive large teams into Argentina via this relationship! 20 hours of travel was a worthy price to pay to reach the remote settlements of Iruya and later the desert region of Cachi.

Come with us to this region in 2012! Check out the expeditions we have planned here.
