QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
How do students raise finances for the AMT minimum donation? How does Overland Missions help with fundraising?
Most of our team members that come raise their support through support letters and finances from churches, family and friends. Others also work part-time jobs and save the money to cover for AMT. Overland Missions helps with fundraising through an orientation that is sent to you upon acceptance. The final donation must be received one month before AMT begins.Back to Top

Yes, we certainly encourage couples and small families to engage in AMT. Married couples function very well on the field and you will find many couples and families involved in AMT and with Overland Missions’ staff. We also offer a special couples rate for AMT.Back to Top

What will a typical day look like during AMT?
A typical day starts at 7:00am and rotates between physical training and devotional time, followed by breakfast at 8:00am and corporate worship at 8:30am. Class times run from 9:00am-12:00pm and 1:30pm – 3:45pm, with lunch served at 12:30pm. Classroom setting locations will vary between the classroom on the edge of the gorge, the warehouse or an on field location. Approximately 50% of the courses are taught in the classroom and 50% have hands-on instruction. Each student is assigned to a work team and each team will have duties to perform each day to allow the base to run properly. Free time and internet times will be after dinner until lights go out at 10:30pm.Back to Top
What are the greatest challenges of AMT?
AMT will challenge you in different ways: spiritually, academically, physically, culturally and emotionally. It is hard to project what the greatest challenge is for everyone, but a good attitude will be crucial to make your time enjoyable. For most students, living in Zambia is an adjustment in lifestyle and culture. Life moves slower in Africa than in the western world and the pace of the course is affected by this at times. Come with an open mind to live in a new culture, be ready to serve on different levels, be flexible and be prepared to work hard. We assure you that you will be a different person by the time that you leave and you will have had a great time along the journey. Back to Top
What kind kind of food will I be eating while I’m in Zambia?
You will eat three meals per day and the food is a mix between local Zambian and western style dishes. The local staple is nshima, which is ground corn meal that is cooked and served with different relishes made from local vegetables. The local food prepared will be different than you are used to; however, it is tasty and nutritious and you are expected to eat it without complaints. Dinners will be typical western meals: rice, pasta, chicken, beef and vegetables. As a student, you will be broken up into kitchen teams to help with meal preparation. Drinking water on the base is pumped from a fresh water well and is safe to drink. Back to Top
What is village ministry like?
Village ministry will provide you with your most memorable experiences of AMT. You will travel from the Rapid 14 base by a 4x4 truck down dusty roads into the African bush. Your goal will be to bring the Gospel to rural villagers who rarely receive visitors of any kind. You will camp in tents, prepare your own food, do daily ministry and experience the warmth of the Zambian people. Be prepared to serve local pastors and build relationships with the villagers. These are very faith-building times and you will see villagers born again, healed, delivered from demonic oppression and encouraged with the Word of God. You will look at the people and the villages with great potential after these times of ministry. Back to Top
