Come and See

As we parked our vehicle at the church in Nyawa, the ladies ran up, clapping and singing. 40 ladies had gathered for the 3 day women’s conference that myself and two other ladies would be teaching. The ride on the open bed truck was long and dusty, but every bump was worth the joy I saw in every face that greeted us. The Word that was spoken challenged each woman in her Christian walk. Erica, a volunteer from the USA, gave a great message on forgiveness that continued to be the subject that the women had the most questions on. Jessie, one of my fellow missionaries, broke down cultural barriers and addressed serving God with all you have. The Lord laid on my heart to share with them that they are children of God and what that enables to do. Each message pierced the hearts of these ladies and you see that it was challenging them as individuals as well as a corporate body.

Overland Missions Story Blog ImageMany of the ladies traveled a long distance from their homes. Sophia lived within the area but was nearly bed ridden and would not leave her home. She had heard of the conference from women in the area and was determined to attend. She looked to be about 70 years old and could barely walk due to immense pain in her legs and feet.

It took her many hours to travel the short distance but her determination was unwavering as she slowly walked to the church. As she listened to the teachings, her faith grew more and more. Sophia came up to us during our afternoon break and told us about her the pain in her legs and her faith that God could heal her. She had gone to the clinics, and even the witchdoctor, but could not find relief. We asked her if she believed God could heal her. She replied with a passionate “yes” and we prayed for her. Afterward, she told us that the pain was completely gone.

There was a huge smile on her face and she bent her legs and moved around freely. Matthew 21:22 says, “if you believe, whatever you ask for in prayer, you will receive.” It’s so awesome to know that God is not limited but that we receive healing through faith in Him! We enjoyed every minute we spent with the ladies in Nyawa. They are filled with the joy of the Lord and I am very encouraged to see the growth in them, even after just a few days. I look forward to holding the conference again next year and hearing the testimonies of what God is doing in their lives.
