The LIFE Project
Machenge is awarded a school building
Machenje LIFE Pre-School is one of the initial schools that the LIFE Project started almost two years ago. Attra Mudala and Brenda Nakazwe are the two diligent teachers of that school with a total of 44 children aged 3-7. The community of Machenje worked steadfastly as they built their mud school room and long drops to accommodate their children, understanding the importance and benefits of education
for the younger generation.
After a year the school room became too small and the teachers decided to split the class and have 2 sessions per day which will help with the space concern. Attra has a calm and gentle manner, her contagious smile is ever present on her face. Brenda is an active teacher who
loves outdoor play with her children; she is orderly and has a stricter approach. They make a well balanced team and have only strengthened the community thus far by their consistency and love in educating the children of their village.
About 6 months ago, The Butterfly Tree an NGO from the UK working in the Mukuni Chiefdom asked to meet with the LIFE Project Co-ordinator. The Butterfly Tree has built several schools, helped fund the maternity block of the Mukuni Rural Health Clinic and has also drilled boreholes in the Kafekwa Village and a few others. Their motto is to nurture those in need!
Jessi Schwertfeger met with the chairman and presented a proposal on the LIFE Pre-Schools in Mukuni Chiefdom and the vision we have in implementing these schools. The Butterfly Tree board was very interested in the vision of the pre-schools and has seen fruit of the pre-schools across the Mukuni Chiefdom. The chairman shared that they would like to build a proper school building in one of the
LIFE Villages.
Over the last year we have watched how Machenje LIFE Pre-School has excelled on every level. The community continues to be supportive in day to day running of the school, the teachers are hard working and show interest in making the school sustainable and the children have developed in their learning experience and deserve every right to be given the chance of a full education. The LIFE team decided that Machenje would be a good choice for a new, improved school building.
Overland Missions Story Blog Image” In the last week we have just been informed that The Butterfly Tree has accepted our proposal and will be providing all labour and building supplies to build a school room in our village of choice. This will be an enormous blessing to the village of Machenje and the communities that surround them. The LIFE team is encouraged that the vision is producing fruit and is extremely appreciative for the opportunity to network with The Butterfly Tree.
