Staff Appreciation Day

There’s a lot of work that goes into building and maintaining a missions base!  Overland Mission’s missionaries rely on our Zambian staff to help us run the R14 base logistics so that we can be productive on the ministry field.  They are the true “helpmeets” of our ministry.

Every year, we take a day and throw a bash in their honor.  Their only job on that day is to relax and put their feet up while we serve them and their families a meal and honor them through our thanks and appreciation.  Family photographs, games and prizes for the kids, and even ice cream cones let them know that we are indebted to them for their service to us.

This is Manka.  She is one of the maids and a cook here at the base.  She introduced herself best when she said, “Ndime Manka.  Njika nshima.” Or, “My name is Manka, and I cook the nshima.” Lunch just wouldn’t be the same without her.

Meet Centre.  Security guard extraordinaire.  He keeps the property safe at night and literally “burns the midnight oil” looking out for all of us while we’re sleeping.

And just because this particular blog is written by me, I have to include my personal vote for Employee of the Year:This is Fridah.  She is a personal maid employed by my husband and I and has been working with us for 2 ½ years now.  She loves Sunda and Kya as if they are her own and her hard work and dedication in my house allows me to be free to do ministry and to help out administratively.

These precious few are just some of the hardworking, intelligent, able people who work here everyday. We are so grateful for these sweet souls who have dedicated their days to working with us, and we truly believe that they are
also responsible for the fruitful ministry that is constantly in motion here in Zambia.  Without them, our work just wouldn’t be possible.

What a blessing for the staff who support the team at the base, but also a blessing for us who support OM and/or have family attending AMT to see these wonderful people honored.  It is great to see the beautiful people our son comes into daily contact while attending AMT.  The staff, the leadership, the students and the camp residents are in our daily prayers.

I have personally benefitted from the tireless efforts and good cheer of all the Zambian workers.  Thank you, many times over.

The above comment is from David Ebert - not Martin Lopez.  I don’t know why it showed up that way.
