The Race for Education in Impoverished Zambia
Education is the key to ending the cycle of poverty that afflicts Africa. In Zambia, a large number of children in rural villages have little to no access to education. The lucky ones, typically children between the ages of eight and nine, will eventually attend a school that is hours each way by FOOT. These long distances, together with their late start in school, contribute to the large number of dropouts in the education system.
The LIFE Project is a division of Overland Missions that brings the education right to their village. Today, we have 18 schools in operation and are currently training more teachers in new villages.
The FIT for LIFE 5k Run/Walk is a fundraiser aimed to bring education to Zambia’s less fortunate, but not forgotten, village children. Consider taking the Barefoot Challenge! Run or walk the distance barefoot, as many of the children do to get to school everyday.
Will you help us win this race for education?
