Sector Management

Sector Management

Sector Management is a strategy to reach neglected and forgotten people with the Gospel. It focuses intentionally on an area of the earth we call a sector, which is approximately 10,000 square kilometers in size. In military style, we divide up the sector and begin reaching the people.

Within these sectors, very little western infrastructure exists.  As a result, not only do people suffer from ignorance of the Grace of God in Christ Jesus, but they also suffer from lack of every description.  In Sector Management, we preach the Gospel in such a way that people understand and believe.  Then we find ways to bring and promote sustenance within the sector until the Gospel has had its full effect.

Within this vision, we have five divisions of Overland Missions at work:

Expeditions : Expeditions is our evangelistic division that goes out to conduct rural meetings with the objective of presenting the Gospel with signs following and beginning a relationship with each village.

The Rural Pastors Network (RPN): RPN is a network of thousands of rural pastors that Overland Missions created to mentor existing and emerging rural leaders for the Kingdom of God. RPN identifies all existing pastors in each sector and invites them into the network. This is our exit strategy for each sector. After approximately five years, we anticipate turning the work in each sector over to the local people.  The RPN is the only division that continues to work indefinitely in each sector.

The LIFE Project (LIFE): LIFE is an acronym for Living In Family Environment and is a strategy to care for widows, orphans, the elderly and the vulnerable. The LIFE Project strengthens the existing village unit providing education, management and immediate care for the vulnerable. It begins in a sector by identifying the 25 most vulnerable villages and caring for them.

The SAM Project (SAM): SAM is an acronym for Sustainability through Agriculture and Micro-enterprises. SAM builds sustainability into the 25 villages through growing gardens and improving on agricultural resources for the people.  Wood lots are also grown to prevent the cutting of hard woods which effect the water tables and lower precipitation.

Advanced Mission Training (AMT): AMT is our training division that educates missionaries to become sector managers. It takes place at our logistical base in Zambia, Africa.  This intensive three-month course covers many practical subjects from theology and anthropology to diesel mechanics and wilderness medical training.

Monitoring a Sector: Overland Missions created the software platform called Timbuctu. It is a location aware tracking system that will document all activity done within a sector, including all media taken inside the sector. It is collaborative system based on social networking ideology so that multiple workers can reach a sector completely and view each others work with the click of a button. Check out http://www.timbuctu.me for more complete details.

Predictions: By 2020 Overland Missions hopes to have a minimum of 200 sectors operating around the globe. This calculates into 2 million square kilometers of unreached people touched by the message of Grace. Glory To God!!
